The following is a transcribed interview by a group of educators who are concerned about the situation unfolding in Guatemala today. We urge direct action in preventing a coup against the democratically elected leader of Bernardo Arévalo. Since this presentation took place, the soft-coup d’etat in Guatemala has entered a final and accelerated phase. The “Pact of the Corrupt” (an alliance of some high-ranking military officers, criminal oligarchs, organized crime and narco-cartels, and a kleptocrat political class) has implemented a warfare strategy to eliminate the opposition and the recently elected Bernardo Arévalo and Karin Herrera as President and Vice President of the country, respectively. The Attorney General´s office initiated the removal of their immunity as elect-officials to impede their inauguration this coming January 14, 2024. Additionally, a group of more than thirty university leaders are under arrest charged with false and spurious accusations. The Attorney General’s office has also issued multiple other orders to incarcerate some of the national leaders of the massive, national grassroots movement that has been protesting daily throughout the country for more than forty-five days.
